CALLING ALL REPUBLICANS
BEAUFORT COUNTY, NC—“Join us to keep our party strong and moving in the right direction!” encourages GOP County Chair, Carolyn Garris. All Republicans in Beaufort County, registered as of January 31, 2023, are called to meet on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Southern Acres in Bath, according to the Call to Meeting issued by Garris. Precincts will meet individually followed by the county convention. Southern Acres is located at 3889 NC Hwy 92 E, Bath.
“Involvement in your local precinct (where you live and vote) is the first step to ‘Building Stronger Foundations!’” says Garris. If you haven’t been involved in your precinct or county before, more info is at this link.
The morning will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m. At 9:00 a.m. each precinct will meet for an hour to elect officers and to select delegates and alternates for the county convention. To serve as a delegate to the county convention, registered Republicans must be elected by their precinct. The convention fee is $5 per person (cash only, please).
After delegates’ credentials are verified, the county convention will convene with Judge Marion Warren (Retired), pictured above, as chair. As director of the NC Administrative Office of the Courts, Warren was responsible for the business operations of the 6,000 members of the judicial branch and its courts, clerks, district attorneys, justices, judges, and indigent services in North Carolina. Before that, he served as NC District Court Judge – Bladen, Brunswick, and Columbus Counties (2000-2015), and NC Assistant District Attorney, 13th Prosecutorial District (1993-2000).
Senator Bobby Hanig, pictured above, will give the keynote address. Hanig serves neighboring district NC 3 (Bertie, Camden, Currituck, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, Northampton, Tyrrell, and Warren Counties) on the following committees: agriculture, energy and environment, education and higher education, state and local government, and education appropriations. Hanig is a two-term state house member, small business owner, and former Currituck County Commissioner. Hanig has lived in Currituck County for 30 years. During his time in the legislature, Hanig has championed reforms including tax cuts for NC families, hurricane assistance, pay raises for teachers, voter ID, and election integrity.
A new 2-year election cycle begins at this convention, therefore business will include the
- election of Executive Committee members and officers for Beaufort County GOP,
- approval of the county plan of organization, and
- selection of delegates and alternates to the district and state Republican conventions.
This year’s district convention will be in Greenville on the afternoon of April 22 while the state convention is planned for June 8-11 in Greensboro.
